A Web-based Assessment of Student Learning App: A collaborative effort in the making

As part of the current academic offering at the Computer Science Program, Dr. Carlos Corrada is teaching the course Development of web-based applications, an upper level undergraduate independent seminar course (MATE 4996) with a strong hands-on approach. One of its objectives is to prepare students to develop a tailor-made app for a client. The course is divided into two teams that will compete to meet the clients’ need. By the end of the semester both groups will present their proposals for an app and the client will ultimately choose which one best suits its needs.

The Office of Evaluation of Student Learning  (OEAE) has been established as the client, and students will develop a web-based assessment of student learning app. This effort is the result of a series of conversations between the OEAE and two professors of the Computer Sciences Department, Dr. Ivelisse Rubio and Dr. Carlos Corrada, about the need to develop an application in order to provide professors with an easy to use interface that helps them analyze, share, and track assessment of student learning in their courses. Said app will provide the OEAE with an overall and continuously updated view of the process.

We are enthusiastic about this project and grateful that we can share this experience with these students. We will keep this post updated as milestones are achieved during this period.
